Cozy has a demand problem competitors keep botching

The cozy audience is enormous, loyal, and repeatedly let down by the same missteps. That combination is the clearest buy signal on the board.

Cozy is not a genre, it's a promise: low stakes, high craft, somewhere to be that doesn't want anything from you. The audience is huge and it is patient — right up until a game breaks the promise.

The signal

Across the cozy tag, the games that stall share a tell: they mistake content volume for comfort. They add systems the audience never asked for and skip the tactile polish the audience came for.

What a maker should take from it

  • Demand is proven and recurring — cozy buyers buy the next one.
  • The failures are almost entirely execution: pacing, feel, and one or two rough systems.
  • A small, careful team is exactly the right shape to serve it.

That's an underserved audience by the textbook definition.
